On 8th May in Bangkok, Thailand, the Viet Celts played in the 8th edition of the South Asian Gaelic Games. After a few ups and downs in the group stages which included a fine win against Taiwan, the VC Men won a very competitive semi-final against Shanghai by a single point. In the final, they played Thailand who had looked very impressive throughout the whole tournament. After a tight and well-fought game with a great deal of controversy and a certain amount of ill temper towards the end, Thailand ran out winners by two points.
The VC Ladies had a team in the competition and also supplied players to an All-Vietnam team in conjunction with Saigon Gaels. Whilst neither the VC Ladies nor the All-Vietnam team made it out of the group stages, there was a lot to be positive about as they build up for the Asian Gaelic Games in October.
On the logistical side, John Campbell and Thailand organised a fantastic event with the quality of both the venue and the Gaelic Football team from Harrow International School being two of the highlights of the tournament.
