The fourth edition of the VAS Gaelic Cup was played throughout the months of October and November and the games were used as trials for putting together the VAS teams to participate in the Hanoi Youth Gaelic Cup 2012 in December. The VAS Gaelic Cup is an internal cup in the Vietnam Australia School (VAS) in Hanoi. It is the oldest continuous competition in Vietnamese Youth Gaelic Football. The games were played at the VAS Sportsground.

In the Senior Boys’ Final, a 10A3 team narrowly went down to a combined Rest of Year 10 Selection in a cracking match by one point. This game was literally decided with the last kick of the ball.  Thanks to Len Elliot for putting together an album of photos from this final.

In the Girls’ Final, VAS Blue beat VAS Orange by 3.6 (15 pts) to 4.2 (14pts). The girls had been training hard in the weeks before and the results could be seen in many fine scores taken by both teams. There has been a history of guest players in the VAS Gaelic Cup and 2012 was no different with three exchange students from Presbyterian Ladies College (PLC) in Sydney participating in the games. Olivia Page, Anna Giles and Sophie Lewis contributed a lot to the training and the matches in their month here at VAS. Le Nguyen Hong Nhung did a lot of great work getting all the girls out to training and getting a good spirit going amongst the collective.

In the Junior Boys Final, VAS Blue had an easy victory over VAS Green, 6.3 (21pts) to 2.5 (11pts). VAS Blue showed a lot more hunger to win as well as being better at taking their scores when they presented themselves.
