That Penalty Save – Shane Golden

Former Viet Celts goalkeeper,  Shane Golden of Kerry took to the fields of Dublin recently for the yearly reenactment of the most famous penalty save in VC history. Under the cosh at the South East Asian Gaelic Games in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2010, Shane pulled off the save of the tournament for a Viet-Malay amalgamation side to deny Malaysia A a penalty goal. Helping Shane relive his finest moment is his brother, Mark Golden, goalkeeper for Dublin outfit, Scoil Ui Chonaill.

    The secret to my success? Watch the kicker’s eyes. They tell you where the ball is going to even before they know it themselves. You can take that to the bank and cash it

    That’s great advice for any youngster contemplating taking up the art of goalkeeping. T’was also true of the art of gunslinging in Old Wild West and the present day art of mudslinging in the Irish Parliament. Look your opponent in the eyes, windows to a trigger happy soul.
